Mr. Umair Majeed Malik is a highly qualified legal professional. He completed his L.L.B. (Hons) degree from the University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom and later completed the Bar Vocational Course/Post-graduate diploma in Professional Legal Skills at the Inns of Court School of Law in London, following which he was called to the Bar by the Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 2002. Since 2005, he has been associated with the firm, and has contributed immensely to the field of law throughout his career.
Over the years, Mr. Malik has gained vast experience in various areas of law, including General Constitutional, Corporate, Direct and Indirect Taxation, Commercial, Labour, and Regulatory Laws Litigation. He has represented numerous regulatory authorities, institutional, and private clients in litigation matters. Additionally, he has immense expertise in handling white-collar crime litigation, and has been involved in trials under the National Accountability Ordinance before different courts of Pakistan.
Mr. Malik also possesses exceptional legislative drafting skills. From 2002 to 2005, he worked as a Legal Consultant with the National Accountability Bureau. During this time, he represented them in a seminar on “Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism” at the IMF-Singapore Regional Training Institute and advised them on drafts of the Anti-Money Laundering Bill. He has also been involved in legislative drafting for other organizations, such as Crown Agents, USAID, and the Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan.
Mr. Malik’s areas of expertise also extend to the Oil & Gas Sector, where he has provided advisory and litigation services to different E&P Companies and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies. He has worked on matters related to Petroleum Laws, Oil & Gas Legal and Regulatory Regime, Petroleum Policies and Rules, Gas Sale Agreements, Employment, and Labour Laws, and Procurement Contracts. He has also provided opinion writing and advisory services to the Construction Sector on different construction laws, rules, byelaws, regulations, and drafted and vetted all kinds of construction contracts.
Moreover, Mr. Malik has a great deal of experience in advising and consulting on transactions such as Privatization Transactions, Joint Ventures, and Partnerships, as well as in Taxation & Regulatory advisory and litigation matters. He has also provided legal assistance to ex-Attorney General for Pakistan, Mr. Makhdoom Ali Khan, in various cases before the High Courts and the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and has offered advisory and consultancy services to various NGOs, including the United Nations Development Programme and USAID. He has also drafted and reviewed important laws, such as the Prevention of Harassment at Workplace Act and Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act for Gender Support Programme, United Nations Development Programme, Islamabad.
